Technology as Knowledge:
Technology has brought several new innovations to the care of cardiac patients. One example that comes to mind is patient’s that have heart disease, specifically coronary artery disease. The heart depends on blood supply from the coronary arteries to deliver oxygen. Blockage of those arteries can result in ischemia, leading to a heart attack(MI). Procedures that once required open heart surgery and a lengthy hospital stay can now be done on an out-patient basis. This is done by advances in technology, which allows a stent to be placed to open the blockage. This new technology has given cardiologist the knowledge to reduce hospital stay, recovery time, cost, and mortalities. Without this knowledge of technology, we would not have this advancement.

Technologies That Have Affected My Major Field of Study

The category that comes to mind when I think of technologies that have affected my major field of study is: Technology as Knowledge. My major field of study is nursing. This relates to the know-how behind technological innovation. There have been several innovative technologies that has brought added value to the nursing profession. These innovations have helped the nursing profession specifically and patient’s in general. This research will look at a major technological effort that has impacted the nursing profession
